On Tuesday, May 6th, DUCA hosted a membership meet and greet to kick off a new era for the organization. Members were welcomed to Iron Hill Brewery in Wilmington for introductions and networking prior to an informative session with the DUCA Board and Newcastle County Executive Marcus Henry.
On behalf of the DUCA board, Sean Healy took the floor to thank member for attending. He formally welcomed new members for their support in joining the organization including: ACE Elevator, Active Crane Rentals, Ascent Elevator Mid-Atlantic, Furness Electric, Hatzel & Buehler and Superior Electric.
He then proceeded to discuss the the history of DUCA and why the organization was formed. “DUCA was formed with essentially 2 goals….1 – Represent and market Delaware Union Contractors of all trades. And…2 – Promote High Standards of Union Construction through extensive apprenticeship training, safety, productivity and quality of workmanship,” Healy stated.
He spoke to the importance of having Delaware contractors that employ a Delaware workforce have a seat at the table with a goal to build a better Delaware. “We are a contractor driven association….built on relationships,” Healy said. “We know what it takes to get things done.”
Next, New Castle County Executive Marcus Henry took to the floor, bringing insights on workforce development, economic growth, and the impact of union labor in our region. Executive Henry then opened the floor for a Q&A session regarding contracting in his county and upcoming projects. He agreed to work with DUCA as new projects come online to be sure to have DE contractors at the forefront of growth.
